RACHEL ACKERMAN
LETTERS AFTER MY NAME:
LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor in Illinois), LMHC-A (Licensed Mental Health Counselor - Associate in Indiana), ATR (Registered Art Therapist), PMH-C (Certified Perinatal Mental Health Counselor)
EDUCATION:
Masters in Counseling and Art therapy from Adler University (2017); Bachelor of Science in Visual Arts with a Minor in Psychology, Illinois State University (2015)
FAVORITE THING ABOUT MY JOB:
I love making therapy a fun and welcoming place to step into. Relax on the couch, listen to your favorite music while making art, or lay out on the floor with the sand tray. Who says therapy has to be boring?
BEST HEALTH ADVICE:
Forget what society tells you is "just for kids." Color with crayons, dance with no music, do a cartwheel just because. It is so liberating to find your creative self without fear of societal judgement. Having fun should not be limited by your age.
MOTIVATION FOR HEALTH:
I am motivated by young children and others who have difficulty articulating their voice and expressing how they feel verbally. I am driven to help every child find their sense of belonging and safety through art and play and guide every parent toward acceptance, love, and listening.
FAVORITE HEALTHY FOOD:
Everything! I love all healthy food, especially ones I can grow and pick fresh from my garden. So rewarding! There are not many foods I would not eat or try at least once.
