Lesson 2: The GFCF Diet

the gfcf diet

removing food triggers

There is no one size fits all diet for kids on the spectrum. Your child is unique, and their diet should be as well! Many parents find food, and gut testing helps in creating the best diet for their child. You can order testing from most Naturopaths and Functional Medicine Practitioners. Along with removing triggers unique to your child, I also recommend a GFCF diet. GFCF stands for gluten-free and casein-free.

why a gFCF diet?

The philosophy behind the GFCF diet is those foods can cause physiological disturbances and inflammation in the body. As well, many kids on the spectrum are sensitive to the proteins in gluten and casein, which means they make antibodies against them. Many experts believe the immune system’s constant reaction to these foods triggers or worsen symptoms.

how to follow a gFCF diet

There are many resources for the GFCF diet online. One of my favorite sites is imsimplyadad.com. To give you a jump-start, I prepared a cheat sheet with popular GFCF products my family loves. You will find this handout in your program materials. If you need help, reach out to me for more information regarding one to one health coaching sessions.
